SUPER BOWL LXI WEEK · LOS ANGELES

Super Bowl LXI Opening Night

Super Bowl Opening Night is the NFL’s traditional “media day” and the two Super Bowl teams’ only public appearance before the game. The LA host committee’s February 2026 release places LXI’s edition in the Los Angeles region, but as of October 13, 2026, no date, venue or entry details were announced.

Not a game ticket: Opening Night entry, free or paid, won’t get you into Super Bowl LXI at SoFi Stadium on February 14, 2027, so for game seats see our Super Bowl LXI ticket listings.

What is Super Bowl Opening Night?

Super Bowl Opening Night is the media day the NFL hosts for thousands of members of the media during Super Bowl week. The NFL calls it the players’ and coaches’ only public appearance before the big game, and fans have watched in person in most years since 2016.

It took over from Media Day, which KTVU said was typically held on the Tuesday morning of Super Bowl week. The first Opening Night, at SAP Center in San Jose on February 1, 2016, was held in prime time on a Monday night, and every edition through 2026 has been on a Monday.

Its full name usually carries a sponsor: “fueled by Gatorade” in 2017–2019, 2024 and 2026, “presented by Gatorade” in 2022 and “Powered by Bolt 24” in 2021. No LXI sponsor is announced. Opening Night is separate from the Super Bowl Experience, a fan event with its own entry rules.

When and where is Super Bowl LXI Opening Night?

Neither the date nor the venue had been announced as of October 13, 2026. The Los Angeles host committee’s February 9, 2026, handoff release lists Opening Night among the Super Bowl week events that “will take place around the Los Angeles region,” alongside NFL Honors and the Super Bowl Experience, without giving dates or venues.

The NFL and each year’s host committee announced the last three Super Bowl week lineups on August 23, 2023, October 15, 2024, and November 3, 2025. That is a record of past announcements, not a schedule for LXI.

Is Super Bowl Opening Night free?

It was free in 2026, and LXI’s entry terms aren’t announced. Every in-person edition from 2016 to 2025 sold tickets, but for Super Bowl LX the NFL made Opening Night free for fans of all ages at the San Jose Convention Center, with limited capacity.

The most recent paid editions cost $20 in 2025, sold through SuperBowl.com/OpeningNight with 50% off general admission for military members and their families, $30 in 2024 and $20 for general admission in 2023. How the 2026 edition worked:

  • Registration Free in the NFL OnePass app, starting December 10, 2025.
  • Entry An NFL OnePass QR code was mandatory, registration didn’t guarantee entry, and fans were admitted first-come, first-served.
  • Sessions Two back-to-back sessions, one for each conference champion. Doors opened at 4 p.m. PT, and the event ended at 8 p.m. PT.
  • Audio The NFL replaced in-ear radios with MixHalo audio feeds, so fans were asked to bring their own headphones.
  • Bags and parking The NFL Clear Bag Policy applied, and the convention center had no fan parking.
  • Autographs The Super Bowl LX players did not sign autographs.

Was Super Bowl Opening Night held in Los Angeles in 2022?

Not as a public event. For Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles, the NFL held a virtual media availability, including a joint team moment, at the AFC and NFC teams’ facilities on Monday, February 7, 2022, and aired it at 8 p.m. ET on NFL Network and ESPN2.

The NFL said the Bengals and Rams would each host a free fan rally instead. The Rams’ rally, at Oaks Christian High School in Thousand Oaks, was open only to season ticket members who were randomly awarded tickets, with no walk-ups. The 2021 edition had also been virtual.

How has Opening Night changed since 2016?

It went from a ticketed arena event to a free, registration-only event. From 2016 to 2020 it was held in arenas and ballparks, including Marlins Park in Miami, where $25 tickets were sold for 10,000 fans in 2020. After two virtual years, paid editions returned in Phoenix, Las Vegas and New Orleans from 2023 to 2025.

For 2026, the NFL moved it to the San Jose Convention Center, dropped the ticket price and split it into one session per team. The AP described that edition, with the Patriots and Seahawks, as a “quieter, calmer, tamer Opening Night.”

When is Super Bowl LXI Opening Night?

There’s no announced date yet. Past editions all fell on a Monday, the latest on February 2, 2026, ahead of Super Bowl LX, but the NFL hasn’t confirmed anything for 2027.

Where will Super Bowl Opening Night 2027 be held?

The NFL hasn’t named a venue. The host committee says only that LXI week events will be held around the Los Angeles region. Past hosts ranged from arenas and ballparks to the Caesars Superdome and, in 2026, a convention center.

Is Super Bowl Opening Night free in 2027?

That’s unknown so far. Fans got in free in 2026 by registering in the NFL OnePass app, while in-person editions from 2016 to 2025 sold tickets, most recently for $20 in 2025. The NFL hasn’t said which approach LXI will use.

No. Opening Night is a separate event held earlier in Super Bowl week, and its entry doesn’t admit you to SoFi Stadium on February 14, 2027. Super Bowl LXI seats are sold separately.

Can fans attend Super Bowl Opening Night?

In most years, yes. Fans attended in person every year from 2016 to 2020 and from 2023 to 2026. The 2021 edition was virtual, and in 2022 the NFL held only a virtual media session while the two teams hosted their own rallies.

No. The NFL warned that registering didn’t guarantee a spot, and fans needed their OnePass QR code to get in on a first-come, first-served basis.

Not in 2026. The NFL’s FAQ said the AFC and NFC champions’ players would not be signing autographs at Opening Night. LXI plans aren’t announced.

In 2026, fans listened through MixHalo audio feeds on their own headphones, which the NFL highly encouraged fans to bring. MixHalo took the place of in-ear radios that year.

Where was the first Super Bowl Opening Night?

SAP Center in San Jose hosted it on Monday, February 1, 2016, before Super Bowl 50. KTVU reported that about 7,000 fans attended and the event sold out.

Is there parking at Super Bowl Opening Night?

There was none for fans at the venue in 2026. The NFL told fans to use public or private parking next to the San Jose Convention Center. LXI parking plans aren’t announced.
